LESBIANS IN SPACE?
Astronomers have discovered that the planet Xena, thought to be our solar system's tenth planet, appears to have its own moon, which they nick-named Gabrielle. No, I'm not making this up, the scientists really named them after the lesbian-ish warrior couple from the cult TV series (planet Xena's official name is 2003 UB313, but "Xena" is just so much catchier).

Xena and Gabrielle orbit the sun beyond Pluto in a band known as the Kuiper Belt, a swath that is home to comets, asteroids, and other space rocks. And the yet-to-be-discovered planet-moon pair Willow and Tara.

... you open the main brasilian newspaper and read: the american federal government assured the retired and goverment workers from new orleans they will get paid. checks will be sent to the post offices.

important questions, floating (sorry for the bad pun) anyone's mind - or at least mine and the journalist's:

- if the city is evacuated, parially floaded, and destroyed, how will people go to the post office?
- if the post offices are obviously closed, since the city is being evacuated, and people can't work unless they want a good but not so healthy amount of illnessess, who is going to be there to give people their checks?
- american banking system, as far as i know, is local. if you lived in new orleans your bank for sure is not going to work, so how are you supposed to cash your check? and i guess they will have to try to remember how things were done 30 years ago BC - before computers - so lets hope washington remembers to send also boards for check marks ("john smith, paid, mary stuart, dead"). it cannot be that hard, considering the equipament used for voting.
- if the orders are to not let anyone get in the city, will you have to join the army or such for cashing your check?
- and last, but not least, when does the bush impeachment process starts?????

isn't it great, when, quoting mrs. dorothy parker, we get so easilly to learn the opinions of an actor who "runs the whole gamut of emotions from A to B"? the newest display of intelect of this great star is his discussion on psychiatry using as arguments his scientology, which seems to prove there is not such thing as chemical imbalance, nor at least that can't be fixed by vitamins(???) and exercises(???!!!). as far as i remember this is the kind of philosophy that killed katherine mansfield...

and there are people who wonder why some countries ban their religions... if you are depressed, easy cure: run (don't walk, run) to the nearest cinema playing mr. cruise's movie, and watch it. if you still don't feel less depressed, just jump off a bridge, and that will cure everything - chemichal imbalance, depression, lack of vitamins, and even living in a world tom cruise is alowded to speak in public...

there is a note today on katie holmes converting into scientology and stuff. up to that point, no surprise, since she is dating tom cruise - yuck. the most fun part of the article is the website generated on the theme, which claims to be "the movement to liberate Katie, a young, gifted actress held captive by forces we may never understand. Even one summer of captivity is too long for one so bright!"

the bright part is amazing. if they lived in brasil and had to listen to her singing a "les miserables" song in the advertisement of "dawson's creek" for months - btw, the kid who played it, wouldnt he make a perfect frankenstein??? - they would understand it was all written on the stars...

photoblogging with a concept

browsing around in my daily homework at photoblog recently, i found this blog - nickname supervision - which i, personally, found brilliant. it has this conceptual thing about it i haven't seen in nothing new for a while, and i like the idea: all the pictures are taken with a nokia 6600. well, many people take pictures only with phone digitals, this is becoming a style, so what?

i kept thinking about it after talking to john: how 80's the entire concept is. phones with digitals, unless you are a paparazzi, are like gel with glitter: cute and all (if you like it), with one use and another suposed utility that is there but in the reality is sorta useless, or at least, far from as great as you dream. of course when the level of the lenses and memory raises, the phone cameras will become great point and shoots, but so far, they are not there yet.

having that in mind - or not, maybe i am reading a different concept on the images, but i think it goes towards these lines - the blog is extra fun in its colection of photos. the images revolve around a universe of graffitis of atari joystics, references to cheesy horror movies - even poltergeist - and on.

even though this jumped in my eyes very clearly and easily, people seem to have a serious problem with it or something similar. from an amount of 10 responses (rather small for a picture of the day, on the front page of the site) 3 were quite negative and critisisms. it made me sad. i guess concepts dont interest many people anymore.

pride in são paulo

so , i even wanted to write down and create a new post with pictures and links for information, but i have no clue how this thing here works. which obviously sucks.

yesterday i was talking to a friend and we were pondering on gay pride parades and why the ones in brasil are so big. it became huge thing: in são paulo about 700.000 people from other places came for the party - when you consider they had 22 trucks playing music i would call it almost a rave.

cnn did this note on the coverage of it and the numbers are amazing - somewhere between 1.8 to 2.5 million people.

which brings us to the question... is são paulo THAT gay? or are paulistas this supportive?

there was a scientific study that once said that brasilians are the most solidary people on the world. which i believe to be true, we have a tendency on being extremelly emotional, even though you can see the bottom down of bad and the almost saint good all mixed in this country. but i myself would not put my hand on the fire for the gay pride of all those people in the parade. and even less in são paulo.

i guess we are starting a new sort of carnival... this one with more eletronic music.

since this is my third attempt to start a blog i decided to do it in english (with many errors for sure) so everyone i care for can read and decided to make its first post one that people can also comment and interact to.

this is not new, but always fun:
