pride in são paulo
so , i even wanted to write down and create a new post with pictures and links for information, but i have no clue how this thing here works. which obviously sucks.
yesterday i was talking to a friend and we were pondering on gay pride parades and why the ones in brasil are so big. it became huge thing: in são paulo about 700.000 people from other places came for the party - when you consider they had 22 trucks playing music i would call it almost a rave.
cnn did this note on the coverage of it and the numbers are amazing - somewhere between 1.8 to 2.5 million people.
which brings us to the question... is são paulo THAT gay? or are paulistas this supportive?
there was a scientific study that once said that brasilians are the most solidary people on the world. which i believe to be true, we have a tendency on being extremelly emotional, even though you can see the bottom down of bad and the almost saint good all mixed in this country. but i myself would not put my hand on the fire for the gay pride of all those people in the parade. and even less in são paulo.
i guess we are starting a new sort of carnival... this one with more eletronic music.

as to the pride. have a tendency of being equally wary towards these group outings. but then again, I agree with houellebecq's point that we all need 'a' religion in this era. photoblog is just that. strange, there should be more creative, sustainable ways of flocking.
Yup. Good point, Ana. Never have I been to a Gay Parade — I’d love to, though —, but I’ve scanned a rather clarifying article on this topic once. You see, it’s become more like a very lucrative business which attracts strong investor from all over only interested in the gay market. Huge amounts of money are feeding this Gay Pride — which is no longer a social event. I can’t say whether it’s good or not, but I do now that most of the people behind that scene is worried about anything but pride. On the other hand, I’ve heard that there is a quite interesting series of cultural events based on gay issues along with the whole Pride Week.
